ARAI (Pune)

Automotive Research Association of India

Autonomous industry-government institute under the Ministry of Heavy Industries providing rigorous engine dynamometer and particulate testing.

ICAT (Manesar)

International Centre for Automotive Technology

Premier testing and R&D agency under NATRiP evaluating raw exhaust gas dilution, differential backpressure, and sound attenuation standards.

ISO 8178 & CPCB-PCLS

International Measurement Protocol

Standardized multi-point steady-state test cycles ensuring > 70% PM capture without exceeding 50 mbar engine backpressure limits.

Standard Operating Procedure

The 4-Stage Path to Regulatory Clearance

How AADEO Solvers transitions your plant from potential violation to verified audit-ready status.

01

Site Survey & Load Audit

Engineers assess existing generator make, displacement, exhaust piping run, and connected facility load.

Phase 1
02

Lab-Approved Pairing

Matching generator kVA with exact ARAI / ICAT type-approved emission control models for guaranteed clearance.

Phase 2
03

Commissioning & Backpressure Test

Flue gas baseline testing and differential pressure sensor verification ensuring < 50 mbar exhaust backpressure.

Phase 3
04

Statutory Dossier Handover

Providing stamped lab test reports, warranty documents, and inspection-ready service logbooks for SPCB audits.

Phase 4
Core Requirements

Three Pillars of Statutory Generator Operation

1. Mandatory PM Reduction (> 70%)

Under CAQM Direction 76 and CPCB guidelines, operational diesel gensets up to 800 kW must be equipped with certified Retrofit Emission Control Devices (RECD) achieving at least 70% reduction in particulate matter emissions.

2. Backpressure Limit (< 50 mbar)

Compliance cannot come at the expense of engine health. CPCB standards require RECD devices to generate less than 50 mbar of backpressure to safeguard engine turbochargers and guarantee zero electrical output derating.

3. Inspection Documentation File

Having a physical device installed is not enough during an audit. Pollution control officers verify type approval certificates, differential pressure sensor logs, and commissioning reports signed by qualified engineers.

Practical Checklist

What Pollution Control Officers Inspect On Site

When an auditor visits your plant, ensure these four items are documented and readily accessible:

Type Approval Certificate

Must cite recognized CPCB certification agencies (ARAI or ICAT) matching your generator's kVA rating.

Emission Test Report

Pre- and post-installation flue gas particulate matter readings proving > 70% PM capture efficiency.

Sensor Calibration Log

Verification that backpressure transmitters are active and calibrated with zero soot bypass.

Active AMC Service Log

Recorded evidence of routine regeneration cycles, flange inspections, and preventive servicing.

Frequently Asked Regulatory Questions

What is CAQM Direction 76 and who does it apply to?

Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) Direction 76 mandates that all operational diesel generators across Delhi-NCR must either be retrofitted with an approved RECD device (> 70% PM capture) or converted to dual-fuel (70% PNG / 30% Diesel). Non-compliant sets face immediate closure and power disconnection.

What is the difference between CPCB-II and CPCB IV+ norms?

CPCB-II applied to earlier generator manufacture standards. CPCB IV+ (effective July 2023 for new engines up to 800 kW) enforces drastic cuts in Particulate Matter (PM) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx). Existing CPCB-II engines can achieve compliance via certified RECD retrofits under standard CPCB-PCLS/12/2021-22.

Will an RECD retrofit derate my generator's power capacity?

No. High-grade wall-flow metal/silicon carbide RECDs installed by AADEO Solvers operate with under 50 mbar backpressure, guaranteeing zero electrical output derating and complete thermal protection for engine turbochargers.

How do I prove compliance during a sudden SPCB inspection?

You must provide four mandatory documents: (1) OEM/RECD Type Approval Certificate from ARAI or ICAT, (2) Pre- and post-installation emission test report, (3) Calibrated differential pressure monitor log, and (4) An active AMC service maintenance contract.
